Cute. My girlfriend and a friend got me a humidor full of cigars for my 17th birthday, and she got me a betta fish as a decoy gift to avoid freaking out my mom or arousing suspicion. Fun little pets, I liked mine a lot.

Yeah, they were both pretty awesome gifts. I hope giving a little of the fish's backstory made my anecdote a little more entertaining without making me seem like too much of a tool. My girlfriend was always annoyed that my mom thought all she got me was a fish (I'm not known for my affinity for animals).

When we were college freshmen my fiancee and I (not together then... ah, fate) got a couple of goldfish for our respective dorm rooms. Plato and Mr. Miyagi. They did not last long.

We got the least maintenance fish possible. Only needs water changed everything 2-3 weeks. Let's see how we do :)
